FIRE OFFICER 1
CERTIFICATION
The State of NJ Division of Fire Safety (DFS) is now
holding challenge tests for Fire Officer 1 (FO1) Certification. If you meet the
requirements and pass the test you will not need to take the FO1 class.
The exam
questions have been validated by the Division of Fire Safety and meet the
requirements of the NFPA 1021 Standard.*
Each person
tested through this "challenge" examination must possess a valid
"Incident Management Level 1" certification issued by the Division of
Fire Safety, and have previously served, or currently be serving as a fire suppression
fire officer within a fire company, fire department, fire district or fire
brigade. To clarify, "Fire Officer" shall be a Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion
Chief, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief or Fire Chief. Fire Police line officer
titles will not be accepted as meeting fire suppression line officer requirements.*
The DFS has stated that about 90% of the people who took the test passed.

Thursday November 19, 2009 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Morris County Fire Academy
Saturday December 12, 2009 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Middlesex County Fire Academy
Saturday January 23, 2010 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Salem County Fire Academy
Tuesday February 9, 2010 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Ocean County Fire Academy
Thursday March 11, 2010 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Passaic County Fire Academy
