Thank you to the KFD officers and members who paid respects to my family regarding the passing of our mother. One of the nice things about a small town is this type of support when things are the toughest.
Also, a belated thank you to KFD members, their families and freinds who supported the Keyport First Aid Squad Cadets fund raiser at IHOP April 27. We did very well, had some fun and did not disrupt Cliff Moore's busines too much! He said we were welcomed back anytime. Again, small town's and communities are the best place to live and enjoy life.
from Tom Gallo and the KFAS Cadet Advisors.
Regarding the Paper Shredding event today, on behalf of the Keyport Recycling Committee, thank you to Fire Patrol for blocking half of the parking lot late last night. It worked out well as there were 20 cars in line before we opened and a steady stream for three hours backed up to Mike's Sub's. This free Recycling service was hosted by Keyport's Recycling Comm and provided by Monmouth County Recycling Dept. It is not official yet however the truck was near full by 1 p.m. and holds 5 tons of shredded paper. We also collected two dump trucks of card board boxes. A few good things: the paper will be reused saving landfill space and cutting of new trees. And just maybe, some of the older paper documents we saw today are no longer being stored in a hot, dry attic or basement by the furnace - removing the risk of fire.
ExChief Bob Poling is Keyport's Recycling Coordinator, Robin Sheridan, Commissioner's wife, is the deputy, and KFD members Jim Lawson, George Sappah and myself serve on the committee along with two other residents. Up until this year, exChief and Councilman John Kovacs served as our liasion. The Fire department is well represented. Thanks to Chief McTernan for helping unload some cars and recording the days activities. If I missed others who stopped by, thank you. It was busy for a solid four hours. Check Monmouth County Recycling web site for next shredding location. This will not be annual in Keyport as it is rotated thru the County. It is open to all county residents where ever it is held.
